Healing Humor

It has been pouring rain all last night and today . The forecast predicts more to come until tomorrow morning , when the accumulated total is expected to be over an inch ! Since it is too wet to garden and my to do list features mostly chores of great time investment , I sat down to watch the Bonnie Hunt Show . Her guest today was Carol Burnett .
There is great healing in humor . There was a famous man in the last century ( sounds sooo long ago...not merely ten years ! ) , who cured himself of a very serious health condition by watching and laughing at funny movies for a month . The movies some preferred barely cracked a smile for me...we're talking about the classics like :
The Three Stooges...nope
Lucille Ball...cute , but not side-splitting
Laurel and Hardy...huh-uh
Jim Carrey -as in Dumb and Dumber...I don't think so
So...how to find healing ? Today's show held the answer . What cracks me up is the combined comedic talents of Carol Burnett , Tim Conway and Harvey Corman . Theirs is the perfect formula of content , timing and sheer genius . Clips were shown of the Carol Burnett show , complete with Bob Mackie costumes (the special underwear was hilarious ) . What ensued was absolute madness . As funny as the skits were ( find the one about Tim Conway as the beginning dentist and Harvey Korman as the hapless patient .It's classic and timeless .) , it was a hoot to watch them try...and fail...not to react to the humor themselves ! I sat transfixed as helpless laughter , loud and long , was heard in my den (it was me !! ) . Tears streamed down my face ( as in "I laughed so hard I cried" ) . Mercifully , the commercials arrived just before a "Depends moment " . Forget the pills and potions to elevate my mood...just give me unlimited access to old footage from The Carol Burnett Show and I'll be a very happy and healthy camper !
