Sweet Tea & conversation... a lovely way to spend a day

Battle Weary

The past two weeks have run the gamut of emotions...mostly on the downward side . Mother became very ill with a urinary track infection . She slept most of the time , ate little (necessitating spoon-feeding ) and talked less . The trip to the doctor on that Thursday had to be made in the wheelchair and he commented that she had to be really sick to endure the invasive intervention needed then without fighting him . Not better by Monday , I followed his insrtuctions to get her to the emergency room of our local hospital . Today is Friday and , as they aren't doing any "aggressive" treatment , she may come home . This news is received with great trepidation .Her regular medications were suspended while there , to avoid them masking her responses . Seems the absence of the anti-psychotic let loose the "demons" and she was hideous...suspicious and accusitory , confrontational and combative and hurtful...the "Evil Twin " very much in evidence . To add to the mix , a Foley catheter was inserted...which she tries persistently to remove !!! A visiting nurse service has been authorized and their call should come later this afternoon for an evaluation and determining of services needed . The wheelchair ,recently used for shopping trips , will come in for room-to-room transport . Between now and early afternoon , when she is to be picked up , there is much to do : bathe , dress and feed me , dash to the grocery store for frozen meals that can be zapped quickly and chopped to spoon feed her (she refuses to put her dentures back in !) and generally make sure the "battleground " is prepared for a smooth transition...for both our sakes .
Keep up the prayers , please...that the meds kick in fast...that she calms down once back home...that I have the wisdom and stamina to cope effectively with all this and make sure we both have whatever is needed . Must run...be kind to one another...you just never know what someone is going through...
