Celebrations

Yesterday , Mother and I were invited to join friends for an early dinner out at a local restaurant . My best friend's daughter , who's working full time and going to college , had made the Dean's List ! Not able to pull off a ticker-tape parade with cheering throngs , we gathered , nonetheless , to celebrate her achievement . The restaurant was a new one whose decor was carefully crafted to look time-worn and well traveled . The food was delicious and the company , joyful . The baby , as always , charmed all and sundry...a dear , social soul whose smile brightened the low mood lighting !
It is so important to recognize the achievements of those we love ! For those bereft of close relatives , graft some friends onto your family tree ! Can't get to a restaurant ? Cook up something at home ! The focus here is the celebration...not the mechanics . It feeds us on a very basic level , when having worked hard towards a goal , that effort is recognized and rejoiced by those important to us . Look around and really see who could use a little recognition and send a card...or a flower...or a hug...or...whatever comes to mind ! We'll all be better for it !
