Today is grey and blustery. The wind-driven rain bends the trees and bushes, sending the little birds to seek available shelter and me to the closet for appropriate layers to keep warm . Ahhh, tucked in the stack of winter tops is my favorite sweater.Purchased long ago and far away in Kenmare,Ireland , when Quills still parked their big truck in the village square and sold beautiful woolens displayed on canvas cots in the peat-scented air. It was originally purchased for my son,who quickly outgrew it,leaving me the giddy recipient of a beautiful "hand-me-up".
This sweater is hand knit of the natural black sheep wool called bainin (not sure of the spelling).A purchase of the same yarn became,at the loving and talented hands of my best friend , a gorgeous baby blanket for my daughter ! There is something solid and comforting about wearing this sweater.Yes,it's warm, but considering all that went into making it and the hands that touched it along the way..it is a garment with lovely history.
Yes its very chilly, windy today, Keep warm!
