My sister is one of those few precious people who keep me on track . Perhaps you are also blessed by those who have lived through your present trial and can give helpful hints to the temporarily slightly deranged . In one of our conversations, the topic was of my curtailing outside excursions for mother. "Why ?",she asked. With her mercurial moods,I was afraid that if we went out for a walk or whatever , she might not be willing to go back in again and cause a problem beyond my ability to solve(The LEO sign can be forceful and intractable, even in dementia !) . "Sooo",she said,"You're living in fear . ". Hmmm...reality,once digested, can bite . It seems that even though a caregiver must consider all the possibilities for one's charge,it shouldn't limit the chances for joy . We went outside that very afternoon and enjoyed the summer breeze, hummingbirds and butterflies.Mother did come in when we had to ,without a fuss, and the opportunity for a pleasant time was not missed .
Yesterday,in another call,I expressed concern about a trip to see relatives. Knowing how Sundown Syndrome can impact activities , the success of the trip was in question . Again ,she asked my mood and again fear was staring me in the face . Being alone here with Mother ,I need to talk through things to find balance (Mom's not so good for that anymore ).Talking to my sister and another good friend and asking for prayers all around , transfers the ultimate control where it belongs. Another stress confronted and dealt with ,thanks to special ladies...Thank You !!
Mom, You are never alone and deeply loved.-Adam
