Empowered by your car ?
I just saw a comercial that has me seeing red ! Two guys at a grocery line...one with health food and tofu...one with heaps of raw meat destined for the grill . The tofu guy looks threatened after a pitying glance from the raw meat guy and grabs his bagged food and storms to that car dealership making scads of money pandering to the wealthy with vehicles usually found on the battlefield . He points imperiously to a car , grabs the keys and thunders off . The ad's trailer says " Reclaim your manhood ". On to the flip side . Two young mothers at a playground , Mom#1 beside her son who's about to go on the slide .Mom#2 pushes her kid ahead and when #1 says politely ,"Excuse me , but we were next " , #2 says rudely , " Well , WE"RE next NOW ! ". #1 grabs sonny , basically repeats the tofu guy's actions , while her trailer says , " Get your girl on ". What's wrong with this picture ? EVERYTHING !! Since when it is acceptable to spend obscene amounts of money to bring yourself to the level of those who are rude and clueless ? Did we forget that such behavior is beneath us ??Since when do we have so little courage in our convictions that we flee to the latest trendy icon for solace and empowerment ? Since when is our man- or womanhood defined ...or worse enhanced...by the stuff we have and not the person we are ??? There were no large , ugly vehicles in the Garden of Eden and yet no one had any problem figuring out which gender was which ! Why is this society so driven to define its roles by the outward , buyable elements ? Could it be that few are willing to expend the energy needed to become worthwhile , honorable people of good character and settle rather for how they appear , so they can fit in? Our women are influenced to dress in ways that make merchandise of them .We are indoctrinated into believing that we are only of worth when we are "hot " and guys fall helpless and panting in our wake ! Our little ones have their clothing choices limited to what's trendy , which is a paen to exhibitionism . Those who dress and conduct themselves in a modest manner are ridiculed and bullied . It takes courage to stand up for what you believe in , especially when you are in the minority . Think how much money we could save by not buying into the ad's hype . Think how our lives will change when we have the inner peace of knowing precisely who we are , what we stand for and what our part is in this world . Refusing to buy into the lie and rank consumerism is not going to be widely accepted ,but will be so good for the spirit .
