The Girls
Mother and I live together. It has worked out rather well for us,so far. I have the advantage of actually living with someone who is more like a best friend .We share the same taste in seasons(we both prefer warmer weather ),the seashore, reading, cooking, gardening, colors and clothes. By some huge blessing , we share the same quirky sense of humor,so often lost on others . Isn't it interesting how the age lines in relationships like ours seem to blur as we age ?There is a certain glint in one's eye, instantly recognizable by the other, that leads to dropping the mundane activities and dashing off to adventure . Giggles have been heard as we pass.We work well together, regardless of the task, sharing the same firm mental conviction that labor can still be performed as it was decades before. We also repent later with Bengay and a smug satisfaction that the job was done well, nonetheless ! As for Mother, she has the quiet security of living with someone who loves her dearly. At her age.that is comforting,as hearing and memory begin to fade ,that one not fall into the hands of strangers. Life and expectations become simpler. The stress of unrealistic standards is cast aside in the name of personal dignity. Life is good !
