Events about town
Well , gentle readers , much has happened since last I wrote !
On Tuesday , the day dawned grey and cloudy ...not a surprise after the torrential rains of the previous evening and its two brief power outages . Calls , internet business and personal preparations for the day were completed early in the morning...a very good
thing ! The tropical storm forecast with varying degrees of alarm hit us mid-morning , knocking out the power with high winds and pouring rain . Coolers were filled with perishables from the refrigerator and filtered water filled every possible container . The fully charged phone delivered a sobering alarm...a tornado warning for our area..."Take cover NOW " !!!
An inner hallway was to be our refuge , complete with pillows and water . Genevieve was puzzled by the darkness , as her apartment is always bright with lights that do not go out . The better for elderly kitties with diminishing sight . She wandered about the
house , as usual , but was wide-eyed to find me camping out in the hallway . Hard floors and lessening winds signaled a return to some
normalcy...notable was the lack of power . Precious ones were called and those whose phones did not depend on electricity responded .
It was a quiet , technology-free day . In case the power was restored in the middle of the night , it was off to bed very early .
And so , at 11:15 pm , everything powered by electricity was restored here . Leaping out of bed , the coolers were emptied back into the 'fridge , lights turned off and alarms set for the coming day aaand , back to sleep .
Wednesday was odd . The power outages were spotty , some traffic lights were out , some stores closed , fallen trees and branches were everywhere and no internet for anyone !
There are still areas where power is not to be restored for many days . The past experiences with hurricane preparedness were helpful , as was the gas range installed here years ago . Why ? In this area , most homes are fully electric ! An opportunity to be helpful to the neighbors ! Stay safe and well !!
