One of my favorite things about summer is the summer fruit !
Give me blueberries for breakfast , snacks of plums and peaches and the ever popular watermelon...all juicy and sweet and never as good off-season .
A personal twist on the Root Beer Float is one made with traditional cream soda and peach ice cream . A very well known ice cream maker usually sells the peach ice cream only this time of year , but the shelves have been empty of this delight for weeks ! Peeved into action , a wonderful recipe from a Silver Palate cookbook yielded the prize . For any similarly fond , here's the recipe :
Peach Ice Cream (makes almost a quart )
4 large, ripe peaches -peeled ,stoned and sliced
3 go into a blender to be pureed
1 reserved and cut into a small dice
3/4 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 TBSP liqueur of choice , but nut-flavored (almond,hazelnut)
Puree the 3 peaches in the blender . Warm the cream in a small saucepan to dissolve the sugar , keep stirring .Cool the cream and add to blender with the liqueur . When all is smooth , stir in the 4th ,diced peach and turn the mixture into an ice cream freezer , following the device's instructions . It is so good !
No ice cream freezer ? Pour the mixture into frozen-pop molds !
Enjoy !
Nice. Now if only I could eat ice cream!
