As the folks age , some move into places that provide the higher level of care now needed .
Others move to be closer to family members , while some pass away . The homes that remain are being snapped up by "flippers" . These are the contractors that buy a house cheaply , renovate within a small time frame and resell it for a profit . The new look is "open concept" , so popular on the home TV channels and so appealing to the younger retirees . The floor plans favor living room, den and kitchen open to each other...one large space . One wonders how these renovations will respond to the handicapped needs when these folks age . Are the bathroom doors wide enough for wheelchair
access ? Are there walk-in showers ? Are the hallways and bedroom doors wide enough for the ambulance gurneys when 911 is called ? Is there a separate bedroom for the live-in caregiver when that service is needed ? So many questions...maybe it is better to simply enjoy the new space and deal with challenges when they come .
