Imprisoned Without Bars

The rain is back in full force ! It beat against my windows all last night with a side order of wind that crashed like surf into the house, and continues today . Yesterday began the onslaught and presented itself as a "book day " . My best friend had shared a book she'd enjoyed and the timing was perfect . Settled into Nana's davenport , with a lidded cup of tea and pillows adjusted...just so...the process began . The Ever Expanding Cat must have radar that alerts her to any time my lap seems available . She launched herself to the intended spot , making much ado of piercing and pummeling , until it met with her satisfaction . This was a mixed blessing . On the one hand , having a large , weighty warmth on one's lap on a chilly , damp , dreary day can be a good thing...that is , until you have to get up ! The very act of trying to leverage said large weight off one's lap is a daunting task , indeed .
Every time I seemed to be making some headway , she slid back , as though a bag half-filled with sand . She was less than amused by this process and the moment I returned , she huffed back into her place , clearly annoyed . As there were a number of these interruptions during the course of the reading , The Diva was less than pleased ! Although I do understand her advanced age , and her need to be warm and snuggy on such a day , remaining immobile for her benefit wears thin after awhile . There are things to do , people to see...chowder to make ( perfect for a day like today ! ) . Tucking a blanket around her will do the deed for now...aaaand , I'm off the hook !
