My place of solace , sought in times of high stress , is the ocean . The majesty and enormity of it all reminds one of of our proper place in this world...that we are small parts of something infinitely larger , more powerful... and far more sensible ! The entire experience combines to comfort me .
On Friday , I fled the house , while the aide cared for Mother . The ocean was magical that day . The fog had rolled in and although the other folks who were there to fish could still be discerned , the mist gently obscured clear view . The scene became a small private room , with an ocean view ! There was no wind , but somehow that characteristic intense salt scent pervaded . There was a marvelous peace and order to it all ...something sorely missing in our daily life . The waves were huge and gorgeous ( as evidenced by feisty surfers bobbing offshore ) and their sound reached my very core...calming...comforting...giving a course-correction back to "center " .
There are friends who needed this comfort , too . The receeding tide had left shells filled with wet sand at its edges ,and several were scooped up for delivery into grateful hands . When you can't get to the ocean , it helps to have a friend to bring the ocean to you !
May you find your own solace today and go forth refreshed !
Nice you took time out to have some peace.
