Sweet Tea & conversation... a lovely way to spend a day

January 27, 2009

I'm up early to check e-mail and have a quiet moment before Mother is up . While chatting with the aide yesterday , I realized how rare and vital are these moments alone . This present reality is like that of parents of a newborn . The care and attentiveness...the total involvement necessary to keep your charge safe and comfortable . The difference , of course , is that the newborn matures , needing less of your 24 /7 care and Mother is in the reverse process and needs more . The course of her disease is such that the first things she learned in this world will be the last things she remembers . Everything in between is gradually lost ...a terrible way to spend the remainder of your life ! Anticipating her needs can be tricky , but when I get it right , it's so much easier for her . This is a learning process for me...an opportunity to attempt to rise to
the occasion , for both our sakes' .
We have a winter storm watch today with threat of snow , so neighbors are out early to do their errands. Ah , my charge is up and moving and so must I...Have a splendid day !
