Dessert
Many years ago,I was given a Donvier ice cream maker. It is a "you-drive" model, with a double-walled,gel-filled, metal cylinder one keeps in the freezer. When inspiration strikes, remove it from said freezer, slip it into its holder, insert the paddle and pour in the liquid of choice. On goes the top and crank (the crank handle, not the cook !) which is turned to freeze the contents. The world abounds with recipes for wonderful ice cream and frozen concotions, which you can happily experiment with. Today's lesson, boys and girls ,was born during Thanksgiving, several years ago. Those heavenly pies were the beginning...all flaky and yummy...but as that season is one of dietary excess, surely there was a way to elevate them, too . Inspiration struck when the hostess brought out ice cream to top the pies. Now,granted it was a premium product, but rather bland.hmmmmm...AHA !...out came the Donvier and the quart of Southern Comfort egg nog( available during this holiday season,at a grocer near you ).Twenty minutes of gentle turning transformed the combination into the stuff of legend ! It was creamy...and rich. The spices made it perfect for the apple pie and the pumpkin pie and the pecan pie !!! Oh joy,Oh rapture...food is good !!!
