Project Lifesaver
This seems to be the week to pass on helpful information . And so...Although Mother is not yet a "runner" , the crushing loneliness for her family ,childhood home and the worsening dementia has spawned narrowly thwarted attempts . An unexpected article in a local newspaper about a device used by the local police for Alzheimer's patients would prove to be a real help . The device (worn on her wrist ) is administered under Project Lifesaver and is used in many states, not only for the elderly, but also for children with autism (who don't always stop when told to ). The local police captain came to introduce himself and the program . I have to hold a testing unit to the device daily to test it and log the results, then he returns monthly to replace the battery and check up on us . If we were to travel ,other states would be able to find her if she disappeared. Thanks to the fundraising of a fraternal organization , there is no cost to us - an enormous blessing ! At this point in our lives, this affords much needed peace of mind...a precious commodity, indeed .
