Reliving Childhood

This past weekend , I had the opportunity to ride the coattails of a real-life Good Fairy...you know...a grandmother ! A friend of mine wanted to treat her darling birthday girl to a movie and dinner , but needed a chauffeur . Eager to be of service , guess who volunteered ? The movie chosen was The Christmas Story , with Jim Carrey . The movie ticket came with genuine 3D glasses...the new and improved model ! The last time I saw them , the glasses were cardboard and had different colored cellophane lenses . These beauties looked for all the world like ultra-cool Hollywood "shades ". The special effects and animation were superb ! Since the body reacts to what the eye sees , one couldn't help but be "in the moment " ...propelled at breakneck speeds , complete with wild twists and turns and on-a-dime stops . Having things flying toward you can also be daunting..."It's just a movie...it's just a movie..." a mantra oft repeated .
Dinner afterward included ice cream , of course , and despite strict orders against the assembled-server-birthday-song-delivery , a good time was had by all . We even tucked in a bit of shopping to extend the joy ! There is much to be said for the one-on-one method of sharing a special event . The young lady felt privileged and pampered...the Good Fairy felt beneficent and glowing...and I felt honored to be witness to it all . Somehow , there is no doubt this will be a birthday to be remembered...warm fuzzies and all...
