The Sendoff

The final sendoff for Mother was on Sunday . Though the ranks of her adoring fans were greatly diminished , the small were mighty ! Those who loved her here , were present to celebrate an amazing woman and her life of giving to others . It was , my friends , an Irish Wake of heartfelt proportions ! There was a groaning board of delicasies to satisfy all and sundry , and plates were piled high ! Music abounded , with special selections by our most beloved small pianist , whose tiny accompaniast contributed as well .
Somewhere between minor gluttony and dessert , the group gathered around happy photos of Mother , from a two year old with her mother, a shell-seeking pose on a Florida trip ,to a grinning porch picture from last summer...all presided over by a wonderful photo of my Father . The touching eulogy left no eye dry and glasses were raised to our most dear and precious friend...til next we meet .
There was a close sense of family , though the only blood-tie was mine . Mother had a gift of loving people into her circle that transcended such convention . She was beloved in return...and that was that ! The Jameson's consumed , spoke " to the blood " and though glasses were periodically raised , there was no inebriating effect .
We miss her terribly and strive to carry on her mission to live well with dignity and fun , to leave no child unloved , nor teary eye uncomforted...to live a life of quality that leaves the world better for having been here .

  2. Hi Katy, Oh your posts are so beautiful. The Irish Wake must have been somthing else and so heartfelt as you said. I remember when my dear Dad passed away oh so well. Yes I believe there is so much food as it is somehow comforting to us.
You wrote this in the previous post: "...The very act of going through everything seems somewhat rude and invasive..."

That's exactly how I felt while we were going through my Dad's things.

The poems are beautiful. Too bad you can't post a picture of your Mother when she was younger. Bless her ♥♥♥ Bless You ♥♥♥
