The Arrival of Spring

Spring has come , and if its chosen method of arrival is any indication of what's to come , we're in for a rough ride ! I awoke at 8am on Friday , surprised at the post-Daylight Savings time darkness . Chalking it up to an impending storm I went about the task of tidying myself up for the day ( so as not to frighten the neighbors !) . A peek out the windows revealed the reason for the gloom...it was snowing ! Big,silver-dollar-sized flakes were sifting down to thoroughly cover a ground hoping instead for warm sunshine . Who ordered "partly cloudy" that had to be shoveled ? It was , of course , melted by afternoon...to the almost-audible relief of the tender, sprouting Spring bulbs .
The robins have been spotted already ! They travel with a mixed flock of blackbirds, that includes starlings , grackles ,and red-wing blackbirds . It's interesting to watch them search for food . There is a distinctive robin-strut over my lawn , with abrupt stops . The head is cocked to the side in a listening pose and , in a rapid strike , some unfortunate critter is snatched from the dark safety of the damp ground to become somebody's lunch ! The pickin's are plentiful , as the recent rain has flooded the lower chambers of the yard , forcing everybody up within striking distance . Ah , the circle of life ...
Mother is due to awaken at any moment...and so my day begins... Do enjoy your day !
