The River

As Mother's daily desire to "go to the water " can be somewhat pressing , the means to satisfy that need as speedily as possible had to be found . Happily , there is a wide river within ten minutes , by car . We're able to park beside the boardwalk to watch the goings on from a ringside seat . That spot is well used by all ages , from high school track members all the way to elderly couples who still hold hands as they stroll and multi-generational groups, complete with drowsy babies in strollers nodding off in the salt air. The musical sounds of the well-trod boards is an absolute delight !
There we sit, sometimes comforted with take-out ice cream, and watch the sunlight sparkling on the waves...sailboat lessons in small flocks...and speaking of flocks...There is a small group of ducks who have claimed the area for their own. They are so secure in the safety afforded them, they nap in plain view , nestled into the sparse grass . One day , as we ventured onto the boardwalk ourselves , there was a group of ten dozing mallards around the feet of an older gentleman...neither showed any intention of moving ! Although Mother's memory of these trips often evaporates in short order , surely they provide a balm to both our spirits...good medicine !
