Sweet Tea & conversation... a lovely way to spend a day

Overcome By Clutter

We are to have a yard sale . " About time ! ",you say ? You have ,no doubt, peeked into my garage.Although I'm sure I purchased a floor with the garage,it's been two years since it's been seen. The problem seems to be that ,having each come from a large home,we've never purged the excess ! Whatever was brought to the former shared home is still with us in this one .Cartons not opened in either move now sit in smug accusation of our procrastination . We are now without excuse...the date is chosen, staff volunteered, advertising in place .The Farmers'Almanac has been duly consulted for dates with favorable weather. What remains is a scant two weeks to unpack, clean ,categorize and price the items. The design plan for the selling arrangement is in place,as are the tables and shelves to be used .Picnic food and beverages are being considered for the "staff".We even have a plan to foil the dreaded "early birds". Those are the intrepid bargain hunters who, reading your clearly worded ad stating your opening time of 9am,show up at 6:30am,demanding to be let in ! A dear friend offered to come tonight to help make inroads into the task, but after a quick tour, was blown away by the sheer volume ! We did artfully arrange the table linens in beautiful baskets, but putting in an all-nighter was out of the question for either of us ! I've promised to be a good girl and plow through the hoard in the daylight hours,as the thought of working in there at night seems totally unnecessary for marginally sane folk . Talk about things going bump in the night ! Hopes of making a decent profit were dampened by her realistic reminder that those living in a retirement community were not known to be loose with their money. Oh well, hope springs eternal !
